The Guardian is in
loving memory of Admiral William Stewart
Bit & Spur Animal Hospital’s The Guardian is
the first no-kill animal rescue and adoption veterinary sponsored
organization in Mobile, Alabama. Since 2007, The
Guardian’s mission has been saving the lives of pets through
adoption, rescue, and spay/neuter. Every year, The Guardian
reaches out to surrounding areas to rescue, nurture and adopt pets
into happy and loving homes.
Bit & Spur Animal Hospital is home to The
Guardian, which provides 24-hour care for the pets housed at the
Guardian. How can you
help those pets at the Guardian? Oscar’s Gift was founded in 2002, after many clients asked how they could help pets
found abandoned, or injured.
With the help of Admiral William Stewart, Oscar’s Gift
was established as a non-profit 501C3 tax deductible organization.
Contributions may be made by anyone as a tax-free donation.
It is Bit & Spur Animal Hospital’s sole desire to use
Oscar’s Gift to the betterment of abandoned or unwanted pets,
with the possibility of adoption.
The goal of Oscar’s Gift is to continue growing and to
provide assistance to an increasing number of pets in need.
How
to Adopt a Pet
The
Guardian matches pets with families in or around the Mobile area.
All of the cats and dogs shown above are spayed or neutered,
heartworm tested, microchipped, de-wormed, and current on all
vaccinations prior to adoption. Cats are tested for feline
leukemia and feline AIDS.
Adoptions
are held Monday through Friday, 8:00am 4:00pm, You may submit your
application to the front desk near the adoption center. Please
carefully read each of the instructions below before you submit an
adoption application.
Instructions
for Adopting from The Guardian:
- All
applicants must be 23 years of age and must complete an
adoption application.
- Complete
and submit the adoption application. We will receive your
application, review it and respond to you within 24 hours.
- As
part of the adoption process, you will be required to sign a
contract promising to take care of your new pet, keep its
vaccinations and heartworm preventative current, and return
the pet to us if you choose not to keep it.
Our
adoption fee is $95, and is non refundable.
The adoption fees help us cover a small portion of our rescue
expenses and provide veterinary care for the pets. The adoption
fee includes spaying or neutering, heartworm test, michrochipping,
and routine vaccinations. Dogs over 6 months are tested for
heartworms; cats and kittens are tested for feline Leukemia and
Aids. All are treated for fleas, ticks and intestinal
parasites. Adoptions fees may be paid by cash, Visa, American
Express or Mastercard. We do not take checks for pet
adoptions.
